AKWASIDAE FESTIVAL

The Akwasidae festival is a celebration to remember the dead and departed chiefs invoking the blessings of their spirit by calling their names and deeds. This festival is celebrated by the Ashantis in Kumasi on Sundays, every six weeks. During the celebration, traditional families bring out their ancestral stools which are purified using the blood of an animal. The Asantehene also meets with his subjects and subordinate chiefs in the courtyard of the Manhyia palace. There is also drumming, singing, dancing and socialization which goes on till evening. These are some of the many activities that goes on during the festival.
